Mother Tongues: Language, Memory, and Performance with Sîpan Sezgin Tekin

Join theatermaker, performer, and actor Sîpan Sezgin Tekin, of the NYUAD Theater Program’s fall production, Symposium of Love, for an interactive workshop exploring the many languages we carry with us and the connections between language, memory, identity, and belonging. 

Through creative writing, discussion, and performative exercises, participants will experiment with poetry, translation, and alternative forms of expression, discovering how words, texts, and ideas can be transformed into performance. No prior experience in writing, performance, or theatre is required. 

The workshop is suitable for participants 18 years and older, interested in language, creativity, and new ways of communicating. 

Sîpan Sezgin Tekin

Sîpan Sezgin Tekin (Amed/Kurdistan 1996 – TR/NL) is an actor, performer, theatermaker, director, and storyteller. His work explores political and historical narratives through the embodied use of language, focusing on multilingualism, the physicality and performativity of language, and its relationship to identity and borders. Drawing from oral storytelling traditions, Tekin creates experimental performances that blur the lines between fiction and reality, often engaging audiences through immersive and participatory situations.
