Biometrics is the science of recognizing individuals based on their biological and behavioral attributes such as face, fingerprints, iris, voice, gait, etc. As biometric systems are increasingly deployed in a number of critical applications, their vulnerabilities must be carefully analyzed and addressed. Professor Josef Kittler sheds light on the evolution of facial recognition for identity verification in secure transactions and visual surveillance. He discusses weaknesses, enhancements, and improvements of different face recognition technologies.
