Join us for a special in-person screening of Mexican-American science drama Son of Monarchs directed by NYUAD professor and biologist-filmmaker Alexis Gambis. This feature was a NY Times Critic's Pick and received the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Now streaming on HBO Max in the US, Son of Monarchs explores the concept of identity by turning to our fellow migratory monarch butterflies. These winged creatures are tri-national, freely crossing borders, traveling over 3,000 miles from Canada through the US, and arriving in Mexico for their hibernation. And yet they are endangered. Their population has declined dramatically by over 80% in the last few years due to deforestation, climate change, pesticides, and—let's face it—human activity.

A Q&A with Director Gambis immediately follows the screening.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, this program is only open to members of the NYU community in New York with an NYU Daily Screener Pass status.
