The NYUAD Center for Genomics and Systems Biology and the NYUAD Institute are organizing an international symposium to discuss recent genomics and systems biology developments. This is the thirteenth NYUAD Center for Genomics and Systems Biology symposium and one of the leading venues for research discussion in the MENA region. The symposium will showcase current research in biomedicine and health and environmental adaptation and sustainability, focusing on issues of high significance for the UAE and the MENA region.

Applying artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to analyze large datasets, particularly in genomics, has revolutionized computational methods to improve our understanding of hidden patterns in large and complex genomics datasets from basic and clinical research projects. In the next ten years, genomic research is believed to generate between two and four exabytes of data. Artificial intelligence has thus become necessary when dealing with the size and complexity of the datasets generated. However, artificial intelligence and machine learning have been expanded beyond genomics, and these powerful tools are increasingly used in fields such as neuroscience, ecology, and population biology.
