TREES - Sam Green x UAE National Orchestra

Composed by Caroline Shaw. Co-written with Rebecca Solnit

Thu, Apr 8 @ 7:30pm, 2027

The Red Theater, The Arts Center

  • Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Green presents his latest energized live cinema experience, with live music composed by Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw and performed by the UAE National Orchestra. TREES is co-written with award-winning author and environmentalist Rebecca Solnit.

One of filmmaking's most innovative artists, Green dissolves the boundary between traditional documentary and live performance, creating an immersive, theatrical event where the screen serves as a backdrop for Green’s live narration and an evolving, original musical score. TREES is a profoundly moving, “unique and ephemeral” (New York Times) study of humankind’s relationship to our Earthly cohabitants, the silent witnesses to all of humanity across countless events and generations, putting humanity’s place into perspective. Featuring actress Judi Dench, Poet Laureate Ada Limon, scientists, and stories from around the world, TREES marks Green’s most ambitious film yet.

The Arts Center co-commissioned and presented Green’s two previous live documentaries, 32 Sounds with JD Samson, and A Thousand Thoughts with Kronos Quartet.

Each performance of Mr. Green’s live documentaries — is a singular experience, and a collective one, with the potential for human connection and human error
